1Overview
Astra is a Discord bot operated by the Astra team. This policy explains what information Astra collects when you use it or are in a server that uses it, how that information is used, and the choices you have. We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it to train AI. This policy covers Astra only. Discord's own Privacy Policy covers what Discord does with your data.
2Information we collect
2.1Server and member information
Discord user, server, channel and role IDs; the names members use and changes to them; when members join and leave and which invite they used; verification attempts and results; and the roles a member held before a moderation action, so it can be reversed.
2.2Message content
Astra processes messages in servers where it is installed in order to run its filters. A message is not stored unless:
- a filter flags or acts on it
- a moderation or verification record is created about its author, in which case the last message they sent in the 15 seconds before is kept with the record
- it is entered into an Astra feature, such as a ticket, form or reminder
- it is sent to Astra by direct message
Images posted in servers or sent to Astra are stored with a digital fingerprint, which is used to detect known scam images and to show deleted images in a server's log channel. Where a server uses a log channel or /snipe, deleted and edited messages may be shown within that server.
2.3Presence information
Only where a server enables the related feature: custom status text that a filter flags, whether a member's custom status contains the server's invite (for status rewards), and the game and activity shown while streaming in a voice channel. To avoid checking the same custom status twice, Astra keeps a one-way fingerprint of it, never the text, for up to a week.
2.4Moderation and safety records
Moderation actions and cases with staff notes, warnings and punishments, alt-account links made by staff, and probation status and risk scores used to detect raids and destructive actions. When a filter flags or acts on a message, name or status, the content and the filter's result are kept with the record. If we block an account or server from using Astra, we keep a record of the block.
2.5Feature data
Levels, currency, game progress and member-to-member features such as families, and content you or server staff enter into features, such as reminders, birthdays, tickets, forms and custom commands. Ticket transcripts are saved when a ticket closes. Profiles, global currency, username history and family links are tied to your account; other data is tied to the server it comes from.
2.6Usage and technical information
Which features are used and when, server settings and who changed them, and technical logs.
2.7Other servers
When an invite is posted, Astra keeps the public details Discord shows for it, so staff can see where it leads. When someone uses Astra as a user-installed app in a server Astra hasn't joined, Astra notes that server's name, the channel and its size. Communities can also keep a list of their partner servers in Astra.
2.8Where it comes from
Most of this information comes from Discord's API or from what members and staff enter into Astra. Servers can also import their own history, such as levels from another bot or name changes recorded by a previous logging bot.
2.9This website
Our website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other sites. Like any web host, ours sees your IP address when it serves a page.
3What we don't store
Astra does not store:
- a general archive of message text
- your online or offline status
- anything said in voice channels, which Astra never joins
- the text of a custom status it checks, unless a filter flags it
4How we use information
To run Astra's features, detect and prevent scams, spam, raids and impersonation, let server staff review and reverse moderation decisions, respond to support requests, and maintain Astra.
We don't use any of it, including message content, to train AI or machine learning models.
Some moderation actions, such as removing a message or holding a new member for review, are taken automatically on the settings a server chose. Server staff can review and reverse them.
6Retention
Most messages Astra processes are never stored. Temporary records, such as a welcome held until a member completes verification, are deleted once they are no longer needed. Feature data such as levels and currency is kept so it stays available to you.
Safety records are kept for as long as they may still be needed. Appeals, ban evasion and returning scams can come up months later, so they have no fixed expiry. These include moderation and verification records with their context, filter results, name and join history, ticket transcripts and stored images. You can request deletion at any time.
If Astra stops running, we delete the data it holds.
7Your rights
You can ask what information Astra holds about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how it is used, by contacting us in our support server. The Astra team handles each request, regardless of where you live, and acts on a request only for the Discord account it is about. If you ask us to delete your data, we delete it unless the law requires us to keep it. Server owners can request deletion of their server's data, including after removing Astra, and server admins can disable features or remove Astra at any time.
If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
8Security
We protect what Astra stores with reasonable technical and organizational measures. Astra runs on our own hardware rather than a shared hosting service, and direct access to its database and files is limited to the Astra team and the service providers who help us maintain it. Links posted in servers cannot be used to make Astra connect to private or internal network addresses. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep this information safe. If someone gets unauthorized access to Astra's data, we will tell Discord and, where the law requires, the people affected.
9Minimum age
Astra is not intended for anyone under the minimum age Discord requires in their country. If you believe we hold information about someone under that age, contact us in our support server and we will delete it.
10Changes
We update this page and the date above when our practices change. If you keep using Astra after an update, the updated policy applies.
